There are lots of fish down there at certain times of year, Have to read the dam reports and see how much theyre letting out before you take a boat out. 2 gates out of Davis Dam is enough if you know the shallow spots in the river, otherwise wait until 3 or 4 gates. I've found the fishing to be faster than it is at Willow but the quality of the fish to be less. A 10lb there is pretty good fish, but there are 20-30lb hanging around the trout plants. A 31 lb was caught recently at the shore in Rotary Park (bullhead). This time of year you get less fish but they are bigger, when it gets warm you start catching tons of 3-6lbers on big baits with the occasional double digit. I've always used the fishermans access by the Riverside casino to launch in the winter. When its jetski/idiot season i would use the bank owned Laughlin Bay marina and pay the 10 dollars per day to avoid the people.Keep in mind with low water launching from down below you'll have to navigate some sketchy spots between there and the casinos.
The bridge above the casinos down to community park is my favorite to fish, unless the waters high then i move down to the big bend area. Just float and cast ac originals or minnows, thats about all you can do.No trolling there with the swift water. If you go when its warm, keep your head on a swivel as there are lots of uneducated boaters and rental jetskis that have no regard for your safety or their own. Can get crazy in the late spring/summer at that fishermans access ramp, people fish on the ramp and tie their boat up to the courtesy dock for hours on end. Community Park is a good alternative to launch if the water is up, usually less people to get in your way and its free until the beginning of April (I think). Hope this helps. _________________
Thanks for all that info! Yeah water did look very shallow in many areas a few weeks ago and wondered how boats navigated but now makes sense if they close gates during winter months. I didnt see any boats running the two days I was there. Willow it is for now then!
I think in March they raise the water there. They caught some after dark where they stocked, but hard to fish when its so shallow. Try Katherine's Landing. Mid sized stripers biting there right now I heard..tons of gizzard and threadfin shad, fat fish... _________________
