This is from a couple of weeks ago. It was 39 inches and hit a stock production 9 inch original in rainbow color.
I landed some bigger ones that week up to 43 inches, but I was mostly by myself and the pics sucked, and I released all fish. In fact, I was pulling 2 lines by myself(with my 2-pole permit, of course), and I got a double with 2 40 inchers. One was on a 5 inch minnow, the other or a 9 inch original. As you can imagine, it was quite the adventure to get both those thrashing fish into the boat. However, they were both successfully landed and released.
Also, I lost one that was visibly in the 48-50 inch range. It peeled off almost all my line at 450 feet. I eventually fought to within about 90 feet of it, and it came to the surface where I could see it. The fish looked like a giant log, and after a few desperate surface thrashes, the beast spat out my AC original. I'm still recovering, yet I'm determined to get one that size again.
Here's my interesting tip of the day: There are many people who complain that trolling scares away the fish. Although that may be true in some instances, especially with bad trolling setups, I've had a lot of success with fish biting right close to the boat. This fish in the picture was a great example of my PROP WASH tactic. I wouldn't have believed it without seeing it happen at least 6 times, but sometimes tiger muskies will bite a lure that is trolled really close to the boat, directly behind the boat in the prop wash. This is with 30-50 feet of line out. I was still letting out line at 30ft when it hit righ in the prop wash.
I've also had that happen a couple of times with browns, but it is a lot more rare.
They really love the AC's action lures. Prop wash, or as Reinwald used to call it; in the churn. I know a couple of anglers who catch huge browns right in the churn/prop wash. Most people troll 250-300 to 400 feet back when the big brown is right under YOUR boat (NOT SCARED), waiting for food. ha ha ha ha
Nice Tigers Ryan.. One of these days you will catch the record there in Utah with one of these AC Plugs...they love that action... _________________
Nice Ryan...I agree I got 3 bites on the shorter line and 1 on the longer line ... man those muskies r FUN!!! it would be insane to troll a hookless teaser rig of squids for Sailfish right behind the boat and film the explosion the muskis would make on that..
