Allan, what kinda of rod do you use when trolling for browns? I currently use lamiglass big bait special. What would you guys suggest for trolling and ripping with leadcore? I use 8-9 ft rod would a shorter, stiffer rod make it easiser to rip big baits?

Cabelas makes a rod called whoopin stick salt that is good for heavy leadcore, i think mine was a 7' heavy or some where thereabouts. This is a casting rod i am talking about, if you are trolling skinnys and 7" or less plugs you may want a tad softer than the heavy, something in the 15-30 line rating is what i would suggest. I don't think the rod itself is classified as a leadcore rod but it gets the job done. It has a lot of back bone but yet the tip is soft enough you can still detect some of the action of your plug. When you have 4 or 5 colors out you need some good muscle, especially if you're trolling slow and need to set the hook. I also used one of the shakespeare sturdy stiks for bass and stripers for a long time leadcoring. Those are only like 20 bucks at sportsmans warehouse and were great for trolling bigger plugs on leadcore. _________________
